This series of illustrations SLOW DOWN uses craftmanship as a metaphor of slow, healthy and eco-friendly life, in contrast with fast life, temporary trends, overconsumption and the destruction of natural resources. Painted in watercolours, they depict handmade ceramic pieces decontextualized by putting them surrounded by elements of fast life, which appear sketched in black ink lines. They are a a fine and elegant decoration for your wall (frame is not included). They were handpainted in watercolor and ink by the Spanish artist Luis Torres Ceramics, from the small village of La Rambla, Cordoba, creator of Bowtery and second generation of potters in his family.

In the illustration BOTIJO VS. OVERCONSUMPTION, a typical Spanish pottery piece Botijo, which is used as a water cooler, especially in rural areas of Spain, is in the middle of a so-called “Botellón”, the Spanish term to talk about people gathering in open-air areas to drink alcohol for hours. This custom, especially popular among young people, is a clear example of fast and overconsumption, but also a very polluting action where thousands of plastics and glass bottles are left on the ground. In contrast, a Botijo is a re-usable bottle, handmade by a potter in some village of Spain, with a very clean and eco-friendly technology: filling it with water and leaving it where the air can pass through its pores (even at high temperatures) and cool the water. One great example of why going back to craftmanship is a good way to slow down and take care of our environment.

La serie de ilustraciones “SLOW DOWN”, en español desacelerar, usa la artesanía como metáfora de la vida lenta, saludable y respetuosa con el medio ambiente; en contraposición con la vida rápida, las modas pasajeras, el consumo desmesurado y la destrucción de los recursos naturales. Mediante la acuarela, se representan piezas de cerámica artesanal de La Rambla, a color y descontextualizadas por verse rodeadas de elementos propios de la vida rápida que aparecen dibujados en líneas de tinta negra. También son una decoración fina y elegante para tu pared. El original ha sido pintado a mano en acuarela y tinta por el artista español Luis Torres Ceramics, de La Rambla, Córdoba, segunda generación de artesanos de su familia.

En la ilustración BOTIJO VS. OVERCONSUMPTION, un Botijo tradicional de La Rambla, está en mitad del suelo de un botellón. La costumbre del botellón, especialmente popular entre los más jóvenes, es un claro ejemplo de consumo rápido y desmesurado. Pero también es una acción totalmente contaminante donde miles de plásticos y botellas de cristal se tiran en el suelo.  Por el contrario, el botijo es totalmente re-usable, hecha a mano por un alfarero de La Rambla, con una “tecnología” limpia y respetuosa con el medio ambiente: llenarlo con agua y dejarlo donde le de el aire (incluso a altas temperaturas) para que pueda pasar por sus poros y enfriar el agua. Un gran ejemplo de por qué volver a la artesanía es una buena forma de reducir el ritmo y cuidar el medio ambiente.
